Deana’s Favorite Resources

I am honored to list the healthy resources below because I know these people and businesses are committed to healthy living, quality products, and excellent service. I personally use these services and/or products. I routinely sample new products and provide feedback to producers. If you have any feedback, would like to be listed on this site as a resource, or would like me to test your product/service, please feel free to contact me.

Find manure by advertising on Craig’s list or asking around; be sure to check what the animals are eating and verify that you are satisfied with those vaccinations, antibiotics, etc. for your soil. Remember, you want living soil and adding chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, GMO elements into the soil may or may not be what you are looking for. Also keep in mind that many use straw and hay mixed with the manure; you may need to allow the composting process to complete before using the blend of carbon material and manure or risk a nitrogen deficiency in plants where applied. I have been experimenting with adding nitrogen sources to this material as finding pure manure has proven difficult in this region so far.

Local Gardening Supplies:

Food and Thought – I often find great prices on herbs, flowers, fertilizers, potting soil, and soil amendments. They tend to carry the special amendments I use like Espoma Soil Acidifier (elemental sulfur) and Rock phosphate. I work here part time, usually Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Superior Stone Distributors – I buy lava rock (slow release minerals) and planting soil from this company.

Driftwood Garden Center – Often more pricey than ordering online, even with shipping but if I need something right away or I’m looking for a unique plant, this company is one of the resources I use.

GreenThumb Hydroponics – Don’t be discouraged by the name, this company carries soil gardening organic materials often cheaper than what I can find in Naples so if I’m near there, I shop for organic soil amendments at this store.

MW Horticulture – I have used a variety of compost and mulch from many local resources. All of them have their good and not so good qualities and so far, this company is what I’m going with. If you can make your own compost and use the leaves and chippings from your property, it’s always better but there’s no way I can make the volume that I use at this time without outsourcing some of it. MW Horticulture also offers a variety of classes on gardening subjects.

ESSENTIAL OILS

YLHistorically, essential oils have played a prominent role in everyday life. With more than 200 references to aromatics, incense, and ointments, essential oils are said to be used for anointing and healing the sick.  I always say, “Heal Thyself” and using essential oil in my every day life for many years has proven to me that they work! I use them in combinations with diet, exercise, and healthy living for aromatherapy, massage therapy, pet health care, my personal healthcare, personal care, cooking, nutritional supplements, and household solutions! CHIROCARE EXPRESS

Dr. Darci is a great addition to my routine that keeps my body in alignment which is very important since I’m always lifting, shoveling, kneeling, and working my back doing all the work around our property. Adding her adjustments to my at least monthly routine keeps me pain free and healthy. Dr. Darci’s walk in method works very well with my schedule and adding her skills to my health regimen keeps me feeling great!
